2nd Roundtable Communique

The Roundtable concluded with a unified resolve to reposition culture and tourism as a cornerstone of Nigeria's economic diversification efforts. Further, it called for a consistent peer review mechanism using the Roundtable as a platform for federating states to share experiences, compare notes and mutually benefit from. Participants appreciated the host (Afrocultour), her partners and all stakeholders for providing a platform for a continuing dialogue on unlocking the huge potential of the culture and tourism sectors and positioning them to contribute significantly towards the diversification of the Nigerian Economy.

Key Resolutions and Action Points

At the end of a very robust session made up of keynote addresses, lead paper presentations, and insightful panel discussions, the participants arrived at the following resolutions:
  • Infrastructure: Upgrade roads, hospitality, and recreational facilities to enhance tourism accessibility and experience.
  • Festival Promotion: Position state-level festivals on national and international platforms.
  • Public-Private Partnerships: Encourage inclusive and community-driven PPP models.
  • Digital Visibility: Leverage social media and digital tools to market Nigeria’s tourism assets.
  • Heritage Preservation : Prioritise restoration and documentation of cultural sites.
  • Cultural Education : Institutionalise indigenous knowledge and languages in school curricula.
  • Security Enhancement : Improve safety measures at tourist destinations.
  • Data-Driven Policy: Develop robust tourism data systems for planning and investment.
  • Creative Economy Funding: Expand support for initiatives likeICE, CLAP, and Africart.
  • National Tourism Framework: Review of the National Tourism Masterplan as a matter of urgency to develop a holistic tourism strategy with measurable outcomes and ease of sector-wide coordination.
  • Transparency & Accountability : Robust management of development funds.
  • “ Nigeria Everywhere ” Campaign: Amplify national culture globally through a unified brand and ensure its Intellectual Property protection.
  • Investment Facilitation: Streamline regulations to attract both local and foreign investors.
  • Institutional Strengthening: Build capacity, transparency, and excellence across all creative economy, cultural and tourism hubs, including aviation and immigration services.
  • Structured Taxation: Define a friendly and fair taxation regime that encourages direct line investment and ease of doing business.
  • Expansion of the Roundtable Goal: Nigeria taking the lead in mainstreaming culture and tourism into Africa’s economy in line with Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) philosophy.
